FIFA+ Collect to Launch on Algorand
The Global Football governing body FIFA has confirmed it is launching a new digital collectibles series called FIFA+ Collectables built on Algorand. The series is set to feature collectibles from some of the FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women's World Cup’s most iconic moments at an affordable price for fans. Algorand became the official blockchain partner of FIFA earlier this year and CEO Sean Ford says this is the first tangible example of collaboration between the two organizations. “The commitment FIFA has made to bridge to Web3 enabled by Algorand, is a testament to their innovative spirit and desire to directly and seamlessly engage with football fans around the world,” says Ford.
Algorand CEO Staci Warden to Speak at SALT Conference
Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden has been announced as a speaker at the upcoming SALT Conference in New York City. SALT is a global thought leadership and networking forum encompassing finance, technology and geopolitics backed by Sky Bridge Capital. Sky Bridge Capital is headed by Anthony Scaramucci is one of Algorand’s most high-profile backers having recently published a book titled The Genius of Algorand: Technical Elegance and the DeFi Revolution. Warden will be joined by several other high-profile speakers from the world of business including Sam Bankman-Fried, Todd Boehly, Anthony Scaramucci himself, and more. The conference will be held from September 12-14 at the Javits Centre Expansion.
Algorand Principal Researcher Features in Coin Telegraph
Principal Algorand Research Dr Hugo Krawczyk had the opportunity to feature in popular crypto news outlet Coin Telegraph this week to discuss Algorand’s ventures in the education space. He discussed the important role of the Algorand Centres of Excellence (ACE) program in furthering Algorand’s development and increasing accessibility.
“These programs allow students to roll up their sleeves and develop and deploy blockchain and digital asset projects in a real-world environment,” said Dr. Krawczyk.
“Universities also take a leading role in developing standards and governance that’s more difficult for the industry to create due to competitive pressures.”
The Cutos VC Group Enters Algorand Ecosystem
Well known Cutos Group CEO Christen Ager-Hanssen has announced a new foray into the Algorand ecosystem putting the call out to projects to team up. In a series of tweets the venture capitalist who initially made his fortune during the rise of the internet in the 1990’s has purchased an algo domain and quickly become one of the ecosystem’s most promising influencers. The Norwegian businessman is a prolific investor who will no doubt shake up the Algorand ecosystem with more capital on offer for projects.
Algorand Governance Period 4 Voting Opens
The fourth period of Algorand governance voting has officially opened with eligible participants having until September 20 to vote upon the two proposals put forward. The first measure relates to whether or not 7m reward ALGOs should be allocated to DeFi governors going forward. DeFi governors are defined by the Foundation in their proposal as, “DeFi players who, consistently with Governance rules, commit Algos for a Governance term.” The second proposal put forward will determine whether or not DEX Liquidity Providers that contribute ALGOs in pools can participate in governance. This would mean they will be able to participate in governance by counting and monitoring these LP tokens representing the Algos committed. This period saw a sizable 32.9k governors stake a combined total of 3.8b ALGO.
Dacade Announce New Algorand Development 101 Program
Online education platform Dacade has launched a new Algorand 101 program. The program is designed for developers who want to begin their building journey on Algorand covering topics including web3, smart contracts, and dapps. This is a welcome step for Algorand with Dacade being one of the crypto ecosystem's most well known and popular education platforms.
Algorand Foundation Hire New COO
The Algorand Foundation have continued their recent trend of impressive new hires, this week announcing the appointment of Deirde Halligan as its new COO. Halligan enters the role with impressive credentials have previously worked for financial superapp Revolut, where she served as a member of the Group Executive team as the Head of Global Affairs and Wealth and Trading, as well as Chairperson and COO of Revolut Securities UAB. Before that, she served as COO for both crypto exchange Coinbase Ireland, and SaaS e-commerce technology company eDesk.
“I’ve always sought work with bleeding-edge technologists/disruptors, and Algorand is the blockchain with the requisite speed, security, and low carbon footprint to deliver financial innovation at a global scale,” said Halligan.
“The Algorand Foundation plays a vital role in empowering a vibrant ecosystem of builders and investors, and it will be my job to ensure that we work as effectively as possible for our community.”
Significant Protocol Upgrade Launched on Algorand
Algorand have this week launched an exciting new technical upgrade introducing State Proofs, raising transaction throughput to 6000 per second, and implementing on chain randomness. "With today's release, Algorand proves once again that decentralization does not need to come at the cost of performance or security," said Algorand Founder Silvio Micali.
"Interoperability between blockchains is the future, and Algorand State Proofs are a critical security feature for communication between networks. We are extremely proud of this innovation and believe it will push the entire blockchain landscape forward."
Fred Estante Promoted to Algorand Foundation Head of Product Marketing
Algorand’s Head of Community in Brazil Fred Estante has this week earned a promotion to become the Algorand Foundation’s new Head of Product Marketing. In the new role, Estante will work closely with Algorand’s global marketing team to ensure new features and products are brought to market effectively. In announcing his promotions Estante thanked Staci Warden, John Woods, Autumn Penaloza, Jason Lee, and Micah Adams.
