Nigeria to Build National IP Wallet on Algorand
The Nigerian government has signed a 3-year exclusive IP agreement with Developing Africa Group and Algorand project Koibanx to launch a nationwide wallet. This will enable the international commercialization of all IP forms being created and registered within Nigeria. Algorand project Koibanx, will serve as the tokenization and payments engine to be utilized in the country.
Algorand Foundation Issue Governance Update
The Algorand Foundation have confirmed the latest details of their latest governance proposal for period 3 outlining the two measures that governors will be tasked to vote on. The first relates to providing more weighting for DeFi projects on Algorand in recognition of the additional TVL that they bring into the ecosystem. Governors will vote as to whether, projects should be granted “governor status and twice the voting power, whilst maintaining the same governance rewards program to Algo holders that commit for the governance period.” The Foundation has confirmed that affirming this change would be their preference.
The second measure involves unlocking a process for xGovs bringing community measures forward for governance voting. Read the full details about both measures here and be sure to vote before the deadline elapses.
Staci Warden Appears in SALT Talk
Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden was interviewed by well-known venture capitalist Anthony Scaracmucci on his podcast series MoochFM. Scaracmucci whose investment firm Skybridge Capital has a large position in Algorand discussed a range of topics with Warden including the recent partnership with FIFA, driving adoption, the current crypto bear market, the Algorand Roadmap, and much more. During her tenure in as the Foundation CEO which began in February Warden has helped the organization adopt an aggressive growth strategy that has already made a sizeable impact.
FlexID Sign SAFE with Algorand Foundation
FlexID has been announced as the latest signatory of a Simple Agreement For Equity (SAFE) with the Algorand Foundation. The Singapore based Self Sovereign Identity (SSI) platform aims to make its decentralized digital identity network available in emerging markets where over one billion people are thought to lack formal identification.
“Identity is foundational to modern-day commerce. Without an ID, one cannot participate in the economy even at the most basic levels such as access to basic telco services, mobile money and banking,” laments Mapunga who is also the CEO of FlexID.
Latest Opulous MFT Patek Myself Launches
The latest Opulous MFT of Ard Adz’s single Patek Myself has been released and now features across various platforms. Originally going on sale on March 31, investors who acquired MFTs of Patek Myself will begin earning royalties as the track is streamed across platforms. Having already earned places in some of the industry’s most popular digital playlists it looks as though this might be the most successful MFT yet on Opulous.
Algorand Researcher Wins Godel Prize
Algorand Foundation researcher Craig Gentry was this week confirmed as a recipient of the 2022 Gödel Prize. The Gödel Prize is an annual prize for outstanding papers in the area of theoretical computer science, given jointly by European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS) and the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Algorithms and Computational Theory (ACM SIGACT). Gentry was recognized alongside his colleagues Zvika Brakerski, and Vinod Vaikuntanathan for their transformative contributions to cryptography by constructing efficient fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) schemes.
Scaramucci Confirms Large Position in Algorand
Anthony Scaramucci has confirmed that his venture capital firm Skybridge Capital will be maintaining its large position in Algorand despite the recent bear market. The former White House Head of Communications also confirmed the firm’s continued confidence in Bitcoin and the exchange Coinbase. Skybridge are closely aligned with both Algorand and the Algorand Foundation and are vocal advocates of the layer 1’s underlying technology.
Algorand Foundation Sponsors Coolest Projects
Algorand Foundation continued its commitment to the nurturing of the next generation of innovators by contributing sponsorship to the Coolest Projects. Coolest Projects is a technology showcase for young people free and open to creators up to the age of 18, wherever they are in the world. At their most recent event, Algorand Foundation sponsored the Advanced program category which includes projects written in advanced languages, such as C++ and advanced Python, or projects that combine multiple technologies, APIs, or types of hardware.
Algorand & Encode Smart Contracts Hackathon Coming
Algorand are set to launch their second Hackathon event in collaboration with the web3 community education project Encode. The hackathon is set to focus on Algorand Smart Contracts and is primarily focused on upskilling developers to build on Algorand. The event will consist of an educational series, a hackathon, and an accelerator all dedicated to learning and building on Algorand.
