Algorand to Blackout Times Square
In perhaps the boldest example of marketing in the history of the Algorand blockchain, Algorand have announced that they will be facilitating a Times Square blackout as part of Earth Day celebrations. In an article published by CoinDesk it was announced that Algorand will be showing advertisements on billboards in the world-famous landmark before blacking out the screens for an hour.
“We wanted to make a bold statement on a large platform to educate the general public that advances in blockchain technology like those employed at Algorand have made it more green and sustainable than the first generation proof-of-work blockchains, and definitely more green than traditional banking and finance rails,” said Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden.
Algorand report that Times Square going dark for one hour saves 6,500 kilowatt hours of electricity, equivalent to 350 million transactions on the Algorand blockchain.
AlgoDAO Seed Round
AlgoDAO have announced the closure of a $3.5m seed round with investors such as Algorand Foundation, Borderless Capital, Shima Capital, Crypto Oasis, and Next Chymia.
“The various teams connected to AlgoDAO have set out to build a tokenized accelerator to empower the organic expansion of dApps, Web3 applications, and DeFi projects within the Algorand ecosystem and we are pleased to be undertaking this journey with the support of some of the leading investors in the blockchain industry,” said AlgoDAO Managing Director Nathan Kaiser.
Algorand Foundation Earthday Metaverse
The Algorand Foundation have confirmed that they will be hosting a community Metaverse session as part of Earth Day festivities. Among the list of speakers will be Al Goanna Founder Benji, Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden, Borderless Capital CEO David Garica, Planet Watch CEO Claudio Parrinello, Climatetrade CEO Francisco Benedito, Envision Racing CEO Sylvain Filippi, Blockbeam Co-Founder Drew Cousin, and more. The live celebration will span the course of one day and be dovetailed by a month-long exhibition of NFT projects from the Algorand ecosystem.
Folks Finance Partner With ClimateTrade
Algorand Capital markets protocol Folks Finance have confirmed a new strategic partnership with carbon offsetting project ClimateTrade. The agreement will see ClimateTrade help facilitate Folks Finance in becoming carbon neutral by offsetting all of its emissions.
“We know how urgent it is for the blockchain world to decarbonize, so it’s wonderful to see companies like Folks Finance set the example and support Algorand’s mission to be the greenest blockchain ecosystem,” said ClimateTrade CEO Francisco Benedito.
Algorand Foundation Partner With Sail GP
The Algorand Foundation have this week announced a new 3-year partnership with the Canadian Sail GP team. The deal will see the Algorand brand feature prominently on the team's sailboat and adds to a growing catalog of sporting partnerships including The Drone Racing League, Gotham FC, and Envision Racing.
"We are excited to partner with the Canada SailGP Team as we are so well-aligned on our shared values of high-performance technology and a sustainable, carbon-zero approach,” said Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden.
“We look forward to collaborating with the team on a range of initiatives that will show the unique mix of performance, security and sustainability that mark out Algorand as a unique blockchain."
Algorand Makes its Presence Felt at Emerge America
Algorand has continued to make a strong impression during the Miami Emerge America event this week highlighted by a keynote speech by Arrington Capital Director Michael Arrington and Algorand COO Sean Ford. Arrington Capital will be well known to the Algorand community as one of the leading investors in the ecosystem. A focus of their discussion was on how NFTs are powering economic models of the future.
Silvio Micali Interviewed by Coin Telegraph at Paris Blockchain Week
The popular blockchain news publication Coin Telegraph conducted an interview with Algorand Founder Silvio Micali during the recent Paris Blockchain Week conference. Hosted by Coin Telegraph Journalist Joseph Hall, the pair discussed a number of Algorand’s core tenants including its solution to the blockchain trilemma and Micali’s vision for the future of finance. Third Period of Algorand Governance Sign-up Closes
The third period of Algorand Governance has officially closed with users now eagerly awaiting the commencement of the new voting session on May. An impressive 58000 users signed up for this period of governance, committing an astonishing $3.9b ALGO. If all users end up fulfilling their voting obligations, there will be a total of $70m ALGO distributed as a reward.
Algorand to Take Part in Consensus 2022 in Texas
Algorand have this week announced that they will be in attendance at the upcoming Consensus 2022 event in Texas. The event is hosted by popular blockchain media outlet CoinDesk and will take place between June 9-12 and feature of host of big names from around the blockchain ecosystem. Users interested in the event can use the code auZWk9XE to save 25% on their passes.
Algorand Foundation Partners with Climate Ride
Algorand Foundation has announced a new 5 year partnership partnership with Climate Ride a non-profit environmental activism company. The deal will see Algorand Foundation invest $15m over 5 years which will be matched by the Climate Ride participants.
“I did my first Climate Ride – four days and 250 miles through Death Valley in 2017, raising money from my family and friends to support wildlife preservation in Africa,” said Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden.
“Over the last 12 years, thousands of people like me have raised millions of dollars each year to support climate-related causes through the amazing work of Climate Ride, and we at Algorand are thrilled to be able to help amplify the efforts of its incredible (and fierce!) community of participants in their fight to help preserve the Earth’s environment.”
