Napster Acquired by Algorand & Hivemind
Algorand and Hivemind Capital have announced a joint acquisition of peer-to-peer music provider Napster. The platform was originally launched in 1999 and enjoyed huge popularity until it became embroiled in a copyright battle in 2002.
Hivemind Capital Director and Founder Matt Zhang expressed excitement about the deal on Twitter saying, “at Hivemind, we believe Music x Web3 is one of the most exciting spaces, and we want to revolutionize how artists/fans create contents, share experience and be rewarded properly.”
“The new Napster will be a music-all-in-one platform for the community.”
Napster joins Limewire as another Web1 music legacy brand reinventing itself on the Algorand blockchain.
International School of Algorand Smart Contracts
The Algorand Foundation has confirmed a new partnership with the Italian Working Group on Distributed Ledger Technology in order to establish a new International School on Algorand Smart Contracts. The school will be led by the University of Cagliari Professor Massimo Bartoletti and aims to upskill students on different blockchain technologies and Algorand smart contracts.
“This four-week school is a tremendous learning opportunity for international PhD students, researchers and practitioners,” said Principal Researcher at Algorand Foundation Hugo Krawczyk.
“With hands-on assignments, use cases and project idea pitches this school will provide the participants not only with the necessary background knowledge, but also promotes active learning by working on their own projects.”
Algorand Foundation partners with NFT Space
NFT Space has this week been announced as a recipient of the Algorand Foundation grant. A part of the Algorand Accelerator program cohort, NFT Space is building a discovery engine and community platform for Algorand.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Algorand Foundation and join in the amazing NFT community on Algorand,” said Tao Han of NFT Space.
“Our vision is to create a platform where you can discover extraordinary NFTs and engage with creators. We want to make NFT search easy by introducing hashtags. You can smash the like button and write a comment to show support to the creator. So he or she will get inspired to create more amazing stuff. We let you customize your space and create your own collections, so your collection is an expression of you.”
Pera Wallet Distribute Governance Reward NFTs
To celebrate the recent launch of their NFT integration functionality as well as the latest governance period Pera Wallet have launched an airdrop rewarding governance participants with their wallet. Eligible users have been airdropped one of four NFTs depending on their level of commitment namely Baby Governor, Lil' Governor, The Governor, and OG Governor. The Governor NFTs are transferable and owners can sell them on secondary markets with distribution concluding at the start of the next governance period.
Algorand CEO on Elaborates on New Partnerships
Algorand CEO Steve Kokinos has shared his excitement about the recently announced deals with FIFA and Napster. In a Twitter thread Kokinos said, “Making digital ownership a part of the FIFA World Cup is a huge step towards broad, mainstream adoption through daily interaction with an actual blockchain. Napster will use Web3 to create new revenue streams for artists, economic incentives for fans, and new ways to experience content. It’s an exciting time for the Algorand ecosystem and FIFA and Aapster are part of Algorand’s long term strategy to bring a billion+ users into crypto.
IBF Net Group Launches NFT Marketplace Affluence
The IBF Net Group has announced the launch of a new NFT marketplace called Affluence built on Algorand. The platform will have auction, buy-now-pay-later, and collateral-based financing features as part of its built-in functionality. A key motivator for IBF building on Algorand is the blockchain’s inherently green properties.
Opulous Distributed Mona Lisa MFT
Music rights NFT platform Opulous has released details for users to claim their MFT for the recently released Lil Pump and Soljia Boy single Mona Lisa. This allows token holders to claim both their MFT and associated NFT artwork. This historic release is the first completed MFT drop on the Opulous platform allowing users to earn yield on their MFT as they accumulate royalties over time.
Berlin Rush Helmet Released by Algorand Foundation and Formula E
The latest NFT as part of the ongoing collaboration between Algorand Foundation and Formula E has been released this week to coincide with this weekend’s Formula E Berlin Grand Prix. This is the third of 8 scheduled releases with each NFT representing a different location on the Formula E calendar. The proceeds of this series will all go toward a mangrove tree plating initiative in Madagascar as part of the Race Against Climate Change.
