Algorand Foundation Host Singapore Developer Greenhouse Tech Talks
Throughout this week the attention of the Algorand community has been focused on the Algorand Foundation’s Developer Greenhouse Tech Talk event in Singapore. The one-day event featured a plethora of talks from prominent ecosystem figures including Algorand Senior Technical Product Manager Noah Grossman, Mathew Ryley of Applied Blockchain, Algorand Foundation CTO John Woods, Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden, new Napster CEO Jon Vlassopulos, and more. Napster Hire New CEO
The former music streaming giant and new web3-based music platform Napster has hired Jon Vlassopulos as its new CEO. The former Roblox Head of Music oversaw the adoption of new music-based initiatives on the community-oriented gaming platform, including its first-ever concert with popular rapper Lil Nas X attracting an audience of over 33 million people. Vlassopulos also has a history with Napster during its most successful run at the turn of the century. While working for German media giant Bertelsmann in 1999, he was part of the team that invested in the file-sharing network, with the goal of striking a peace deal with the record labels. Vlassopulos did not waste any time in introducing himself to the Algorand community with an address during the recent Singapore Greenhouse Talks as well as confirming a slot as a keynote speaker during the Decipher 2022 Conference in November.
AXL Ventures Launched by Optio
Algorand Venture Capital fund Optio Capital have launched a new project called AXL Ventures. Announcing a partnership with the Algorand Foundation this week, AXL Ventures will launch new Algorand accelerator initiatives in the APAC region. Based in Australia, AXL aims to further growth of new start-ups in the region which already has a strong cohort of Algorand based projects.
“We know the next generation of blockchain start-ups will solve for mass market use cases that make the technology as seamless as our infrastructure today,” said AXL Ventures Accelerator Program Director Michael Hofweller.
“Algorand is the perfect L1 technology to nurture these types of projects, especially those building in the realm of global finance. AXL ventures is laser-focused on igniting this crucial wave of projects that will undoubtedly onboard the next billion users to the blockchain.”
Lofty Secondary Market Launched
The Algorand-based Real Estate platform Lofty has launched a new marketplace allowing property holdings at any time peer-to-peer. Prior to this launch Lofty investors could only trade indirectly owned real estate via REITs, stocks, and funds on the stock market. This announcement represents another significant step in innovation on the Algorand blockchain increasing the utility of the ALGO coin.
TravelX Ink New Partnership With Argentine Carrier
The Algorand-based protocol for tokenized travel products TravelX this week announced a new partnership with Argentine carrier Flybondi.
The platform works by converting travel tickets into NFTs known as NFTickets with a growing inventory for customers.
“As of now, the platform allows transactions using the USDC stablecoin and has no plans to incorporate other stablecoins, although it could eventually integrate coins developed by airlines,” said TravelX Chief Blockchain Officer Facundo Diaz.
Algomint Launch goUSD Basket
Algomint has this week launched a new goUSD basket allowing users to mint goUSD in exchange for their USDC. This comes in addition to its suite of bridging options including goBTC, goETH, and goALGO. Algomint has also alluded to the addition of more new features which are covered in the project’s most recent litepaper.
GARD V2 Testnet Launched
The overcollateralized & decentralized money platform GARD has launched the testnet of its v2 protocol. Built on Algorand, GARD allows users to earn sustainable yields, leverage ALGOs/ALGO derivatives, and participate in Algorand Governance. Headline new features of the v2 protocol include DeFi 2.0, Streamlined Liquidations, Stablecoin Staking, Redesign, Derivative ASAs, Partial Repayment, and more. Algorand CPO Speaks at Converge 22 Conference
Algorand made yet another appearance at a high-profile tech conference this week with CPO Paul Riegle joining a blockchain panel at the Converge 22 Conference. Held across three days in San Francisco Converge boasts an impressive line-up of speakers including Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin, billionaire Mark Cuban, FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, and more. Riegle was joined on his panel by other leading voices in the cryptocurrency space to discuss the blockchain trilemma and scaling for 1 billion+ users.
