Limewire Partners with Universal Music Group
The revamped Limewire project that is being built on Algorand has partnered with Universal Music Group. As part of the agreement Universal Music Group artists can now offer audio recordings, audiovisual content, backstage footage as well as other artworks as NFTs on the Limewire marketplace and sell them directly to fans and collectors in a safe and trusted environment. With an endless list of global icons on their books including Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, The Rolling Stones, U2, BTS, Chris Stapleton, The Weeknd, Abba, and Elton John this opens the door for huge growth opportunities in the Algorand NFT ecosystem.
Wormhole Bridge Launching on Algorand
The Wormhole cross-chain bridge protocol has announced it will be integrating Algorand allowing developers to leverage Wormhole SDK to build decentralized applications (dApps) and protocols that can move value seamlessly across nine major blockchain networks without fees. Algorand joins Wormhole’s portfolio which includes Solona, Terra, Ethereum, Avalanche, Oasis, Binanace, Polygon, Fantom, and Aurora.
“Wormhole has quickly become one of the largest DeFi networks in the world,” said Hendrik Hofstadt from Wormhole.
“The network plays a key role in enabling liquidity to flow into new ecosystems, which has a profound impact on the growth and expansion of decentralizing protocols, projects, liquidity, governance, and participation. The Wormhole community is excited to welcome Algorand to DeFi’s fastest-growing multi-chain liquidity network.”
Staci Warden Attends Boston Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting
Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden made a prominent appearance earlier this week at the Boston Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. During the event Warden was interviewed by Bloomberg Technology to speak about Algorand as a potential environmentally friendly alternative to Bitcoin. The full interview can be viewed here.
Wayru Complete Seed Round
Decentralized network provider Wayru have completed a successful seed round raise of $1.96m. The raise was led by prominent Algorand VC firm Borderless Capital several other high profile investors.
“Internet access is as critical as the access to financial services,” said Borderless Capital CEO David Garcia.
“We are honored to back and support Wayru’s vision of democratizing access to the internet, starting with low income and rural communities in emerging markets and accelerating the deployment of the internet infrastructure by using blockchain technology to create the network effect on building connectivity.”
Terra Projects Migrating to Algorand
Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden has confirmed receiving several expressions of interest from prominent projects building on the Terra network wishing to migrate to Algorand. The Terra network unfortunately suffered from a well-documented crash last week leaving many projects on the platform looking to explore other potential solutions. To assist Warden revealed that the Foundation are creating a tool that makes it easy and seamless for Terra Luna projects to migrate/bridge/mint their NFTs on Algorand.
NFDomains Mainnet Launch Date Announced
The NFDomain project has announced that it will be launching on Algorand mainnet on June 4th. The NFDomain platform is set to allow users to purchase domain authorities as NFTs meaning that once purchased they are owned by the user permanently. In addition to this the platform will also allow users to put their domains to use for sending and receiving crypto.
Algorand Foundation Supports Activate Hackathon With Scholarships
The Algorand Foundation has announced that it will supporting scholarships for top students in university blockchain clubs to participate in the Activate x Wormhole Hackathon in Miami.
“We are committed to student support and engagement with student organizations and see them as crucial contributors to innovation and success in blockchain technologies,” said Hugo Krawczyk, Head of the Algorand Centres of Excellence (ACE) programme.
“Supporting talent from student initiatives like Kryptosphere, Boiler Blockchain and Princeton Blockchain Society helps create a vibrant environment for the next generation of blockchain natives. Participation in hackathons is a tremendous learning opportunity and gives students a platform to leverage their skills and establish connections.”
Paul Riegle Algorand Deep Dive With JT Invests in You
Algorand content creator JT Invests in You conducted an insightful interview this week with Algorand CPO Paul Riegle providing a comprehensive overview of the ecosystem. The pair discussed several important topics including the user experience of Algorand, upcoming upgrades to the layer-1, the importance of interoperability and more. A great watch for anyone wanting a deep dive into the current state of the network and its future direction.
Silvio Micali Named in Boston Globe Tech Power Players 50 List
Algorand Founder and Turing Award Winning Cryptographer Silvio Micali has been named by the Boston Globe as one of 50 Tech Power Players in the state of Massachusetts.
The list recognizes the honorees' career impact on technology and business, taking into account their tech-specific contributions and innovations during the pandemic.
"There are hundreds of influential companies and leaders based here in Massachusetts whose work has a major impact on the future of technology, said CEO of Boston Globe Media Linda Henry.
“We are thrilled to recognize this group of leaders for their incredible contributions to both the tech community and to our region. AlgoOracle closed Seed Round
Algorand based oracle network Algoracle has completed its seed raise of $1.5m with support from some of the ecosystem’s largest VC firms. The was led by Borderless Capital, with major contributions from the Algorand Foundation, Valhalla Capital, and Big Brain Holdings.
“We are excited to back Algoracle and their vision of bringing data on-chain in a decentralized fashion,” said Borderless Capital CEO David Garcia.
“This will help developers to build more powerful and sophisticated applications and smart contracts, enabling innovative and disruptive new use cases on top of the Algorand blockchain.”
