Algorand Foundation seal multi-year partnership with Formula E team Envision Virgin Racing
The Algorand Foundation this week inked a multi-year partnership with the world’s first carbon-neutral Formula E team Envision Virgin Racing. The deal will see the Algorand logo feature prominently on their car as part of their slick new green wrap design for the upcoming 2022 season. Both companies are also aligned in their vision for a green future, with Envision promoting a ‘Race Against Climate Change’ (RACC) campaign to raise awareness for green initiatives. The project has seen them already plant 11693 trees and saved 120160 kg of carbon emissions.
“Sustainability and addressing the climate crisis through the deployment and adoption of innovative new technology is core to why we exist,” said Chairman of Envision Virgin Racing Formula E team Franz Jung.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with the Algorand Foundation because, whilst blockchain technology provides many interesting new opportunities for us, and many other organizations, Algorand’s technology allows us the unique opportunity to deploy blockchain in the most environmentally responsible way”.
Algorand and Wharton Business School Partner for new Blockchain Certificate program
Algorand announced a new partnership with globally renowned Wharton Business School Pennsylvania for a new 6-week online Blockchain certificate program. The program is set to cover a range of foundational blockchain topics including DeFi, Smart Contracts, investing, and more, containing 50 video lectures, 6 module assignments, 7 case studies, and a capstone project. The Algorand blockchain will be used among the aforementioned case studies for students.
Opulous announce Mona Lisa Week Campaign
Opulous have launched a new campaign called #Monalisaweek to celebrate the launch of their first-ever Music S-NFT sale of Lil Pump and Soulja Boy’s brand new single titled Mona Lisa. During the week they’ll be giving away prizes including an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris to visit the Louvre, $20,000 USD worth of OPUL tokens, and Golden Tickets for Early Access to the Lil Pump and Soulja Boy NFT Sale. Algorand Foundation CEO Sean Lee interviews Authentium Founder Phil Talbot
Algorand Foundation CEO Sean Lee was this week joined by Authentium Founder Phil Talbot during one of his weekly fireside chats on the Algorand Foundation YouTube channel. During the discussion, Mr. Talbot spoke about the Authentium project explaining their vision to assist farmers in developing countries in the food supply chain by restoring inequities through a supply chain. Silvio Micali appears at CONSOB G20 Event
Algorand Founder and master cryptographer Silvio Micali was invited to speak this week at the CONSOB’s G20 Event about the Algorand blockchain and its inherent carbon negative properties. During the session, Micali dispelled the narrative that all blockchains are bad for the environment and that blockchains are solving a problem that doesn’t exist. He went onto explain how Algorand can remain carbon negative through minimal computational output and carbon offsetting as well as the solutions it provides to issues within the traditional financial system.
Algorand launches Hackathon with prize pool of $1 Million
Algorand this week launched a new Hackathon encouraging developers to build dApp games with a potential prize pool of $1,000,000 USD. Taking place from November 1st through until December 7th featuring four main categories a prize of $20,000 USD (paid in ALGO tokens) per category including game development tooling, NFT-based games, metaverse environments, and play-to-earn games. Game studios and indie game developers can also apply for one of the four $250,000 USDbounties. Submissions will be evaluated by Algorand based on criteria such as product features, user/game experience, documentation, examples, and extra media like a video walkthrough (added to the submission), usability of the product, the complexity of the game, and mechanics. Algomint set to make BTC Green in partnership with Algorand Foundation and Nettle
Algomint this week announced their commitment to make BTC usage on their platform carbon negative in a joint initiative with Algorand Foundation and Nettle. The Algorand based dApp is a bridging platform that can wrap BTC and ETH tokens across to the Algorand platform by minting goBTC and goETH. Once minted these assets enjoy the inherent benefits of the Algorand protocol including being carbon negative. This partnership will see Algomint remove all emissions created during the BTC minting process by purchasing Nettle Zero tokens which represent the removal of 1 tonne of CO2 from the atmosphere. This venture will be partially funded by Algorand Foundation.
Algorand Foundation provides grant to crowdfunding service Plandail
The Algorand Foundation this week announced that crowd founding service Plandail have become the latest recipient of their grant. Plandial provides a suite of features that simplify the issuing of digital equity shared between business partners leveraging Algorand. The grant award will help support Plandail in building this tool for entrepreneurs and investors alike.
“Algorand’s views on sustainability are in line with our Environmental Social Governance (ESG) values and this was one of the deciding factors to partner with them,” said Plandial CEO Owen O’Driscoll.
“We are pleased to announce this partnership today at WebSummit, Lisbon, reflecting our shared focus on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.”
Digital agency giant Dept to launch open-source NFT marketplace built on Algorand
Digital Marketing and Media agency Dept have announced that they are launching an open source platform for an NFT marketplace built on the Algorand blockchain. The marketplace will be called AlgoMart and is designed to make it easy for brands to build and launch their own NFTs. The company have already released Githubs docs explaining how to create an Algorand NFT storefront.
Algorand Governance voting opens with instructions provided
Following the opening of the first-ever Algorand governance period, The Algorand Foundation have released instructions of governance participants. The document extensively covers all steps involved including Connecting a Wallet, Staking Algos for Governance, and Submitting Votes. The voting period officially opened in October with the first question posed being focused on how much governance participants should receive in rewards for participating.
